A wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the family of Fred Cox, an 18 year old allegedly killed by police in High Point North Carolina on November 8, 2020. The young man was fatally shot while protecting two people from drive-by shooting at a funeral. As gun shots rang out, Fred ran into a church to open a door for a 12-year old and his mother who were looking for a cover as gunfire raged.
“Fred is dead for being a hero while Black,” Ben Crump, family’s attorney said during a news conference on Wednesday (August 11).
BuzzFeedNews stated that the family lawsuit is alleging Deputy Michael Hill who was in plainclothes at the time and also attending the funeral on security assignment from the Thompson family shot Cox from behind. The 18-year old Cox died instantly at the scene.
