The Criminals Who Killed Four And Kidnapped Two At Nigerian Defence Academy Want N200 Million Ransom

The bandits who killed four and kidnapped two at Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna has contacted the authorities and want N200 Million. Both Arewa leaders and PDP has condemned the act in their own words. Another group calls for reboot of Nigerian security architecture.

In the last week or so, the National Security Adviser to the president Rtd Maj. Gen Babagana Monduno has given good appraisals to the president's new strategies since loads of Boko Haram weakened army are surrendering to the federal government, Unknown Gunmen struck at the nations foremost defense institution.

Right before taking Major Stephen Datong hostage, Lt Commodore Awolor Wular and Flt Lieutenant Okoronkwo were all fatally shot.

The bandits dressed in military fatigue who earlier pulled up in motorcyles had successfully disarmed and beaten the guards at the entrance and headed for the officers quarters. All these are happening at about 1:00 am at Airport Road Army Barracks.

As if this incident is a surprise to the authorities, across the street from the Military College was the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, where 39 students were abducted by bandits on March 11, 2021. The bandits asked for N500 million a few days after the kidnapping, and they finally got their freedom after spending 50 days in the bandits’ detention following negotiations.

People in the know stated that personnel monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the academy were asleep, during and after the attacks on premises by the bandits.

Sources has it that, the bandits sneaked in through a part of the facility that had no fence. “It was in the middle of the night, and the personnel that were meant to be monitoring the CCTV had slept off. They could have put everyone on alert and avert the attack.

“The gunmen operated for hours and left without any hindrance. After they left, soldiers in the barracks made efforts to trail them but failed. They couldn’t kill even one of them. They searched everywhere in the bush but couldn’t find them. They had fled away with their motorbikes.”
