Report Ranks Nigeria 10th Happiest Country in Africa

 



Nigeria secured the 105th ranking out of 147 nations in the 2025 World Happiness Report, which was unveiled on Thursday, the International Day of Happiness. The report showed that Nigeria dropped three spots from its 2024 ranking of 102 but has moved up to become the 10th happiest country in Africa.

Libya Emerges as Highest-Ranked African Nation
Libya emerged as the highest-ranked nation in Africa, securing 79th place. It surpassed its neighbors in life satisfaction and societal well-being despite ongoing challenges.

Finland Tops Global Happiness Rankings for Eighth Straight Year
Finland continued its streak as the world's happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, with other Nordic nations like Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden following its lead. The Netherlands ranked fifth, Israel eighth, and Luxembourg ninth, completing the top 10 list.

US Happiness Ranking Reaches Highest Level Since 2012
The United States, which fell out of the top 20 for the first time last year, now ranks 24th, having reached its highest ranking of 11th back in 2012. However, the decline in happiness is not exclusive to the US, as the United Kingdom now has an average life satisfaction of 23, recording its lowest level since 2017.

Canada Remains in Top 20 Despite Downward Trend
Canada, which has seen a downward trend in happiness over the past decade, remained in the top 20 at number 18.

Afghanistan Remains Unhappiest Country
Once again, Afghanistan, which has been suffering from a humanitarian catastrophe since the Taliban regained control in 2021, remains the unhappiest country in the world.
