To all UFC aficionados Kamaru Usman is a family name. He's a champion. The Nigerian born champion returned to his native Nigeria for the first time in 30 years this summer. On his return back to America, the UFC welterweight champion told ESPN that any MMA event staged on the African continent now will easily out shine the Rumble in The Jungle staged for Momammed Ali and the legendary George Foreman in Zaire Congo in 1974.
"Hosting a UFC event in Africa would be groundbreaking," Usman, 34, told ESPN. "It would be monumental."We all know the significance of the Rumble in the Jungle, the fight with [Muhammad Ali and George Foreman] here in Africa, and how massive that was and I think UFC would easily be bigger than that."
Kamaru Usman became the first champion of African decent when he defeated Tyron Woodley in March of 2019. He proudly flies his native country Nigerian flag in every of his fights.
