The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 42-year-old Indian woman, Ms. Neetu Neetu, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano. She was found in possession of 72 parcels of heroin concealed as chocolate wafers.
The 11-kilogram consignment of the Class A drug was recovered from Neetu's luggage during a search, following credible intelligence. The seizure occurred as Neetu was clearing customs after arriving on a Qatar Airways flight from Bangkok, Thailand via Vietnam and Doha, on Friday, March 14.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd.), said Neetu's arrest reflects a growing trend of drug trafficking organizations hiring foreign nationals, particularly women, to smuggle illicit substances across Nigerian borders. However, he noted that NDLEA's vigilant operatives, equipped with modern technological tools and proactive intelligence, have consistently thwarted such attempts.
In a separate operation in Kano on March 20, NDLEA officers arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Michael Ogundele, with a 50-liter steel gas cylinder concealing 50,000 pills of tramadol 225mg. Additionally, on March 19, a 40-year-old suspect, Sunday Ogar, was apprehended in the Gunduwawa area of Kano with 27kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis. A 40-year-old female suspect, Khadijah Abdullahi, was also arrested on March 18 in the Lungun Bulala Yalwa area of Kano with 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
In Lagos, the NDLEA arrested two suspects, Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa, with 67.5kg of skunk in Mushin. Another 100.8kg of the same substance was recovered from the store of two fleeing suspects in the Anifowoshe area of Mushin. Additionally, a suspect named Isah Idris was arrested in Apapa with 4.5kg of skunk, 600 grams of tramadol 225mg, and 30 liters of codeine syrup on March 18. On the same day, another suspect, Yahaya Mohamed, was arrested in the Ikotun area of Lagos with varying quantities of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.
